lsd?
If you have the tranny off the car just look threw the transmission where the axle and intermediate shaft go. If you can see all the way threw and there is no dif pin going threw it the tranny has LSD. Like this.

I think P1_variable said it better.

Here is a list of the transmission codes and what they mean, its likely that its actually a ITR tranny or a S80 that came from a GSR with LSD.

If you lucky its out of the 98+ JDM ITR unless you do a lot of highway driving.. if you do and it is a 98+ JDM ITR spec, be prepared to spend a lot of money on gas for long trips
. Which is more then worth it for the added acceleration you will get out of it.

Why does a lot people say that if you look through it and you don't see anything then its not lsd and if you look through it and you see something on the way then its lsd. or maybe they don't know ****....
im in the same boat as u. i just bought a 98+ JDM ITR tranny.. as far as i kno it has LSD, white sticker starting with s80xxxxxxx, and no VIN tags.. supposely theres a stamp N3E LSD on it but mines dont have it. .does yours?
My GSR transmission does not have the stamp but its a LSD tranny. Its possiable its a aftermarket unit because I have not had it apart yet.. Just look threw and you can tell instantly.

Yes they did. Not many but they did come with lsds from the factory.

USDM no, JDM yes.
i'm not sure if ALL JDM GSR tranny's came with lsd's stock, but every jdm gsr tranny that i've come across has an oem lsd in it.

It was never a option in North America on the GSR. I was actually amazed that the new SI comes with one.. Usually things like a LSD are reserved for other parts of the world that have a lot more interest in cornering performance.

in this case you are lucky and u have the JDM hybrid tranny from a JDM ITR 98+

alright well then how can you tell the difference between the jdm itr tranny and the usdm tranny by looking at it .....now i know how to see the lsd but how about jdm or usdm?
Do a search, theres a lot of info on this already.
1. "N3E" is JDM 4.785FD (US does not have this tranny). "J4D" is USDM 4.4FD (& 95.5-97 JDM).
2. JDM does not have a green VIN tag, so the holes for the tag is untapped.(not threaded to accept bolts).
3. LSD- Look at the the splines where the axles go, if you can see all the way through it has a LSD.
4. Tranny cases are interchangable and can be changed (Some rub off the J4D LSD stamping and say that it had a N3E LSD stamp), Only way to know what you really got is to open it up and count the teeth on the final gear. OR buy it new from dealer.
