Default Miss Fire Problem?!?! D16y8. I have searched.

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone could help me out here.

My car has a miss fire that occurs usually only when it's hot and I have been driving for a while. Only happens at 1/4 throttle and idle.

No CEL. Which is weird.

I have searched through Honda-Tech for similar problems, and it seems to be ignition related, which I thought.

I have changed my plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coil and ignitor and it STILL does it. Maybe fuel related, but would I not get a lean code if that was the case?

I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas on this, maybe something I missed?

I would really appreciate it.

Thanks guys.

Haha I've been fighting a similar problem for months and haven't figured it out. Someone else posted about it yesterday with the same engine. I've replaced all the same crap. Mine doesn't misfire at idle though, only seems to while accelerating, i have got a CEL twice in the past year for "random misfire in cylinders 1 & 2"... if you figure it out lemme know lol. I've replace ignition coil, wires, plugs, oil/air/fuel filters, tested tps/map, checked timing, no luck

misfires can be that your exhaust is to big for your engine too, haha i had a vw in the past and 2.5" exhaust was much too much

Yeah and it's so annoying when you got to drive for long periods of time. Also it really sucks wasting money on expensive as hell ignitors and coils!

You said the car was stock? How many miles? Have you verified the timing with a timing light? Have you set the valve lash recently/at all?

So you already tried ignitor? Good, now I don't have to waste money on that like I did the ignition coil lol.

I'm going to check the valve lash this weekend, getting everything ready for boost

It's got 120 000 KM on it. The timing is fine(I checked it) and so is the valve lash(done recently to spec).

My old car used to do this as well. I'd be sitting at a stop light and it would randomly miss and kind of shiver and then go back to normal.

It also happened a few times while accelerating at low RPM.

I never figured out why it was doing it. I had replaced the cap, rotor, plugs and wires, and it still did it.

I never got any CELs either.

Yeah thats exactly what mine does, it will randomly do it than go away for awhile. Sometimes like a day than start doing it again.

double check that timing..

Next step I believe would be testing the fuel pressure

When was the last time the fuel filter was changed? (Check fuel pressure)

Could it be the timing? I mean, if the timing was a bit off how would it cause a random misfire to happen only every once in a while? I'm almost positive that my timing was dead on and my fuel pressure was fine. And I know the fuel filter was fine because I had replaced it just a few months before it started happening.

Wow it was my fuel filter. Changed it three days ago and it hasn't missed fired since.

It was changed a year and a half ago, so I assumed it wouldn't be that bad yet. I also didn't think, since it only happened randomly that it would be the fuel filter.

I was suprised.

Thanks for the help everyone.
