Default OBD1 D16Z6 into 97 EX

I have a 97 ex with no motor at this point, and i got a spare d16z6 to put in it but I have never messed around with OBDs so I need your help!

Right now I basically have the OBD1 motor & ecu
and OBD2 wiring harness that was used with y8 motor

Do I need the OBD2 --> OBD1 jumper harness???

Thanks in advance

you can just put all your y8 **** onto the z6 block and head and run it obd2, that's what i'm doing. the dizzy won't bolt up but you can swap the guts into the z6 one. not sure if the ckf sensor bolts to the z6 oil pump yet, so you may have to swap the pump and the pan as well.

basically if you run an obd2 alternator, dizzy, vtec solenoid etc etc and just use the z6 mechanical **** it's essentially no different than your obd2 y8.

i'm not sure about nevada, but here you can't pass inspection with an obd2 > 1 conversion harness, they have to scan it as obd2 if it's a 96+

i agree..just put all of your y8 parts (mani, exhaust, dizzy, alt, p/s pump, engine harness) on the z6...the head is completely the same z6-y8..and for smog purpose i suggest u put on the y8 valve cover too..make it look original..most smog tech can't tell.

Maps for Y8 and Z6 are different, and VTEC on Z6 is 4800, VTEC for Y8 is 5200. Redline for Z6 is 7200/fuelcut 7600. Redline for Y8 is 6800 fuelcut 7200.

They may both be 1.6 SOHC VTEC, but they have diff personalities. Z6 &gt; Y8.</TD></TR></TABLE>

so say i have a z6 short block but y8 head, IM, ecu and all the other **** is y8. is that gonna run ok with the stock y8 ecu?

as long as you have obd1 alt and dizzy.
So just swap out the block, not the parts on it

you combo will be essentially a Y8 with slightly lower compression, and no lubrication problem that the D16Y blocks have. So, ofcourse it's going to run on a P2P,</TD></TR></TABLE>

cool lower compression is fine with me. i'll be running the y8 oil pump cause i need that ckf sensor. does anybody know if the z6 pump has the hole for that sensor to bolt to? i'm told the y8 pump only works with that y8 pan.

so as long as i use the jumper harness from lets say JDMSHIT.com, i can use the motor without any extra parts?

yep just get that conversion harness and you'll be fine just make sure you can pass inspection with it over there. if you can't, do what i'm doing and get all obd2 stuff, bolt it to the motor, get an obd2 ecu and run the z6 obd2.

also if you want to run obd2 but your z6 doesn't have the ckf sensor you can hack the ecu so it doesn't care. use the z6 pump and pan, forget the sensor and do some wiring https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/1029958

i just tried to get the wiring harness over with... but the plugs for injectors dont fit.
I do have some obd2 injectors tho... should i use them with the same set up? *(obd2 wiring harness + OBD2--&gt;OBD1 Conversion )

if your harness is obd2 you should use the obd2 injectors.

what about obd1 wiring harness from an EG? its made for that motor too... i think it should work unless the chassis harness isnt compatible with the obd1 harness
