is it dirty? sometimes they get alittle dirty & stick. also, check the throttle cable, if it's to tight it'll stick as well.

hope i have been helpful!

only at 5000 rpm? should it get stuck depending on how much he pushes the gas?
if thats the case maybe some wd-40 on the part where the cable connects to the throttle. or maybe a messed up spring that catches on something.

check the black cover on the end of the cable, looks like a nipple, if it broke off and slides down the cable it will cause this. also, make sure theres not much slack in the cable if its getting stuck when he goes WOT to closed throttle either of these will cause it. if the cable is too loose when you let go of the throttle it will jump halfway off the throttle rotor causing it to stick high rpm.

DON'T USE WD-40!!!!!! WD-40 is not a lubricator. if he plans on lubing that area, which is a good idea, autozone as those lube spray cans for like $1. try that.

wd-40 is a lubricant, but also a magnet for dust/dirt. dont lube it, theres no point. the cable is self lubed, and the throttle shaft sits on bushings/orings, that dont require lubrication. just fix the cable protector or adjust the lash in the cable.

WD40s lubricating quilities quickly evaporate. Some call it a lubricant, some don't. In the long run though, don't use WD40 strictly as one.

hes right. wd-40 does lose its lubricating ability after a while. i tried to use it on my bike chains. worked great for a day. then. it was dry. i think super light grease or sewing machine oil works wonders.
