Oil Pump for a b20 vtec
can anyone tell me if you know whether i absolutley have to change to oil pump from the stck b20 to a oil pump out of a b16 or b18. i need to know asap because im ready to do the conversion but i need to know this first. i have a b16a. can i use the one off that and put it on the b20 block?
all b series pumps are the same, but it depends what year u use cause the lower timing covers have to be the same year as the pump cause they are slightly different thats all.
well i have just the b20 in my car now and going to 6500 rpms sounds kinda hard on the motor. someone told me that to take it to higher rpms i need a oil pump thats from a vtec motor and used to going into higher rpms. could i just keep the one on it thats already on??

eh, not all true. all 96+(obd2) b-series oil pumps are the same.
id say get a 96+ ls pump with a 96 ls lower timing cover.

can you possibly tell me the results of it not being the right one? if its not the right one will vtec not kick or what? the oil pump i want to use is off a 2nd gen b16a?
So anyway, I have read all of your replys, all good info. I'm building a B20 vtec with a motor from a 98, so you guys are all saying that the oil pump in it is fine?
he saying all b series can use the same oil pumps. if ur changing out the old one for a new one, then go with one out of a 96+ vtec motor. if ur block is 96+ and u dont need one then dont get one. like me i have a 94 ls block and got a 00 itr oil pump, water pump, t belt, and jsut notched out the lower timing cover instead of spending $30. either way works fine, and the notching out is super simple
