Default Temperature Gauge Fluctuation

I took my 94 RS out of storage on the weekend.
I noticed that on the hwy the temp gauge stays close to Cold and in city driving it goes to the middle. This is only my second time driving it, so I'm not sure this is normal but it doesn't seem like a Honda.. they usually just stay in the middle.

The rad fluid is full and I re-bled the system. The car has had a full tune-up and has only 170,000km.

Is this normal?

mine usually stays right under the middle, the needle sits right on the colder side of the thermostat symbol that on the middle of the guage, i notice sometimes if im cruising downhill or when im in a situation where im barely-not even on the gas for a little while, that the needle will actually slowly get to about halfway between cold and the middle, it does it soo much that its even gotten very close to cold before but then when i start getting on the gas a bit more, it gets back up to its usual near middle position, i dont know why it does this, i have no problems with my thermostat, radiator, or fluid. anybody else notice this?

I have the same situation w/ my 94 RS. I've driven it for close to 3 months while the temp gauge fluctuates but I havent had any overheating problems, so I dont think its anything major

So its the sensor for the temperature gauge? If so, then I don't care.

Does the Honda thermostat fail open or closed?

With new thermostats being very inexpensive, I would suggest replacing yours.

my temp guage goes to about 1/3 of the way city driving and whatnot, then a little less than 1/3 if im driving on the freeway,at around the speed limit.

I will replace the thermostat but I'm still curious:

Does the Honda thermostat fail open or closed?

mine runs at just below middle all the time, summer, winter, city, hw, w/ ac on or off. My neigbors civic temp gauge fluctuated cause he had air in his cooling system, same tegs have a bleed valve next to thermestat, some like mine, dont have a bleed valve, just squeeze the top and bottome radiator hoses while the radiator cap is off to check for any air stuck in the system if you recently did a flush.

i know for me the thermostat failed closed. beacause i took it out and it was stuck closed. but then again my brothers civic hatch took 20 mins to go past "c" and warm up but he replaced his thermostat and now its warm in 5 mins. so i guess they fail both ways
