can you remove a B-series engine without taking out the tranny?
i'm about to do a engine swap. i dont want to have to remove the tranny at all.
will it be possible to leave the tranny in the car while the engine is hoisted out? do i have to put something under the tranny to support it or will the tranny mounts hold it up?
does the crank pulley have to come off? how about the alternator? can you pull the engine out with the altetnator still attatched or does it have to come off?
sorry for all the questions.......i just want to make this swap as easy as posible.
the engine is being swaped in a 95 Integra if that helps.
thanks.

Nope.... take off wheels, then take off axles, then under all motor mounts will supporting the bottom of the engine with a jack. use a crane to support it up top at the same time. you leave the alternator attached to the engine.. and no you don't take off the crank pulley... not sure where you got that idea from, but that would be a bad idea.

nah, it takes A LOT of movement to get the tranny off the engine and I know for a fact it would be a HUGE pain in the *** to do that within the engine bay. I could pop out both axles in about 10 mins and have the mounts unbolted in another 10. The hardest part is the shift linkage. Use an air hammer to punch out the pin (under rubber boot) in the linkage. Once you get the engine out, assumung you want to take out the tranny, a pry bar and a lot of wiggling should get it off.
no way to get the clutch out of the bellhousing while its in the car. youcan pull the tranny separate, but the motor out has to come with trans.
so the entire engine and tranny assembly can be hoisted out from the top once all the mounts are removed?

you can do ghetto and drop it down....lift up the car and slide it out. I wouold never do this...but I have know alot of people who have.
well if you want to do an easy swap, pull out the tranny with the motor and take it off when the motor is out. You can also transfer whatever you need on your new motor then.

That's what I did in my garage. I didn't have a lift, so I took off the head, jacked the car up real high, and slid it out the side on a dolly. Booyah!
Hey, what if you want to just pull the tranny off while leaving the motor still in the car, how would I go about doing this?
it's possible but not worth it.....just take the whole thing out, tranny, axles and brake stuff is alot of mostly easy stuff to put on anyways ;P
another question for you guys............
when you want to hoist the engine out from the engine compartment where do you hook up the chain to? i figured out that i can use the P/S braket and attatch one end of the chain there but how about on the other side of the engine? do you hook it to the distributor bolt holes or somthing?

there is a place to thread a bolt into on the tranny (or real close, i forget) and on the driver's side you thread a bolt to the back side of the head near the edge kinda. just be sure to thread it enough to support the weight and use a sturdy chain.
The "ghetto" way:
jack the car up as high as you can get it(two jack stands in back and two in front), yank the axles out of the tranny (no need to pull them from the hubs) undo the brake lines from the bracket (takes two seconds, no need to undo the lines all the way, just from the bracket), pull the axles out and around where they face the outside of the car, drop the tranny and pull it out the front or through the pass side, put a dolly or something like one under the motor, have one person hold on to the driver side of the motor, and another hold on to the pass side of the motor(this person can stand where the tranny used to be), lower the motor on the dolly, wheel it out, and by the way, this is soo much easier if you pull of the intake manifi
