You prolly fried the other one. if this one works then just use it. now what ecu is in there right now and what one didn't work? basically i want to know if your running the right ecu at the moment or if your running the wrong one and it just seems to work for you.

I am converting ot OBD1 because I have a test pipe on my car and the 2nd O2 sensor keeps throwing codes. I put the orginal one back in and it works. What causes a ecu to be fried?

do basic order of operations...
Is the fuel pump priming first
Work from there would be my advice...
if so, try letting it prime once, letting the fuel systme pressurize, turn the key back, turn it back so it primes again, wait a second or two, then turn it off, then do it again (3rd time), then try starting ur car, u can usually tell that way if the fuel pump is going
