i got a 96 civic ex with stock motor and i was wondering if i could pull/replace the motor out without removing the tranny, axles, and wheel assembly? if so is there any trick that anyone knows?

Just drop the tranny and engine together and leave the axles in the car.
It would be too much of a pain to leave the tranny in the car. But, you can pop the axles out of the tranny and leave them in the hubs. That's what I normally do.

what do you do with the lower ball joint on the control arm? do you pop that out of leave it also?
i'm gonna swap my motor soon, but use my current tranny, so i was wondering the same thing</TD></TR></TABLE>
Hmmm... I can't remember exactly how I did it. I'm pretty sure I took the lower ball joint nut off so I could move the knuckle enough to pop the axle out of the tranny. But that was it. Super quick and easy. No need to mess with the axle nuts unless you are changing axles or switching to an engine which requires different axles.

did you have to remove the strut fork? or did you leave it on?
by "drop" do you mean that you lowered the motor onto the ground? is that the only way to do it without removing the axles?

That's how I do it, then I zip-tie the axles up out of the way and pull the motor and tranny out from the top, although some people just put a jack under the motor and lift the car up off of it.
