Default the greddy sohc saga continues

hey guys.. ive been doing some research.. ive got around 6k to spend.. i was thinking gsr with a vortec sc which my friend is selling for 2200.. or just boosting my now d16z6.. i saw the new turbos from greddy.. the tz series.. so i emailed greddy to see what the deal was.. to see if the sohc kit could be upgraded... i was told i could just buy a boost controler, injectors and upgrade my e manage for more boost..

i was almost sure (i could be wrong) that u cant really control the boost on their kits..other then the 6 to 8 psi you get stock..i could be a retard..heres the e mail

Thank you for your interest in GReddy
All you need to do is get a boost controller and up the boost or have your Emanage re tuned . the turbo that your kit came with will handle 12-14 PSI no problem and will spool up faster .than going with a bigger turbo and spemding money that you dont need to .only do this if your motor has all that you said .

are any of you guys running higher boost on your greddy kits??
what did you do when you upgraded??

i was thinking of tossing the e manage and going to go get a neptune program..in a stripped hatch low 13s on slics would be fine with me.. or should i just say f*** it and go big..even though i dont really want too..

ideas and opinions please

thanks

I'd use the greddy kit and run about 12-15psi on it.

I'm running a turbo slightly smaller than the one that comes with the greddy (if it's the 15G, I'm currently running a 14G@15psi.) Ran 13.7 on street tires, clutch went before I could run with the slicks.

Homemadeturbo.com

If you want the best set up for the best price, don't just grab something out of a box, put it together yourself from a complete understanding of what everything does and how to make it the best it can be.

b-series is overpriced.

not worth that much money.

sleeve a d16 and get rods + pistons and boost it for cheaper. and you will forever **** off b-series guys because you got more for less

I fixed it yet again. I got a used but in great condition, GReddy 15g d series kit with the blue box, I know I should toss the blue box, for $950 shipped and I love every penny I spent on it. I've got the boost turned up to 8psi and it been running great since I turned it up and I'm still running rich.

It's so common around here it's not even funny. You can pick up turbo kits for Dseries for as low as $500, and then add the parts you still need for maybe $3-500 more. Same thing with a Bseries, you could easily find a pieced kit that for $1000-1500 and add what you need.

You won't find an already assembled kit for under that for brand new, but in all honesty, piping is piping, new or used. 75% of a turbo kit is piping. Intercoolers can be picked up for next to nothing, manifolds, oil lines, etc. Turbo's you can pick up new or used in good condition, same with BOVs.

HT marketplace can quickly become your friend, I picked up my SC for $550.

I say boost the d but I have the greddy kit and use a mbc but the stock wastegate on the 15g and I would get boost spikes on anything above 10psi...either that or my mbc is poop.

But 8-10psi on a tuned setup will net you 200+ whp AND torque ...for the money I would say go boosted d
