Default Exhaust Manifold Studs

The top threads of one of my exhaust manifold bolt holes tore out so Ive been using a longer bolt to reach the threads deeper in the hole. Id like to switch to studs before Im totally screwed.

What are some recommendations for studs? ARP doesnt make any specifcally for Honda/Acura but they do have some generic M8 x 1.25 studs that should fit. However Im not sure on the length. I just need them long enough to accomidate a 1/2" flange. Also the ARP studs are $90 bucks for 10 studs.

I've had problems with those studs breaking off since day one. I'm now an official Profressional at taking out broken studs from inside the head . A friend (builder) suggested running some Grade 8 botls he had. I now have 0 problems. I don't know where he got them because they were a little rusty and came out of some random bolt bin he had, but looks like you can get them anywhere. GL

Your breaking studs or bolts? Because the bolts are stock. Im not really having a problem with them breaking, Im having a problem with the threads gulling and ripping out after years of repeatedly installing manifolds.

What length should I get?

Yeap, I've had one of my exhaust studs break off during shipping, and I still have to remove it. Any suggestions on whether I should do remove it myself with a rigid easy out, or take it to a shop to have it removed. thanks

Hey guys my problem isnt broken bolts. The threads stripped out from gulling and over use. Aluminum is soft. I torque them everytime. Lets try to stay on topic.

http://www.acuraoemparts.com/d...ch=no

The self locking nut is number 10

http://www.acuraoemparts.com/d...ch=no

The stud is number 15

I had the same problem with not being able to tighten my bolt down correctly because the thread is fairly stripped, so i went with all stud and it seem to be working fine so far.

You can also use hi temp silicone gasket maker along with your exhuast gastket too for extra sealing

Did anyone ever have this problem?

When I got my full race manifold, when I tried to bolt it to the motor, it would not sit flush because where it meets the block near the bottom of the flange, the block had some spots where it would raise up from the block almost 1/8 inch. I had to dremel these spots flat for the manifold to sit flush.

Maybe something like this reason is why you stripped these studs out???? I've never had a problem with them, same block and I've taken my mani out about 5-7 times.

Na I never had that problem. It sounds like your flange has a bigger footprint than it needs to be. My problem was just because I swapped manifolds alot for testing and the threads just wore out.

I looked at the manifold one day and BAM!

4 of them broken, one inside the head.... a few hours later, got it out.

Went to ARP, not a problem since... (im still looking for the part number for ya)

B series, ramhorn..... I couldn't use the supplied nuts with the kit though. I didn't have any clearance for the 12 points. (they hit the runners)
