Default B16 Timing belt install

Okay, i think I'm doing it right. The cam gears have an arrow that point straight up. The crank shaft has a line on one side. I think that line also points straight up. Then slip the belt on as tightly as possible.
It ends up loose on the exhaust side or loose across the top of the cam gears. any suggestions to get a tighter fit.

He's right, search for the workshop manual. Your supposed to pull the belt from intake cam to exhaust, crank, pull it around the water pump on the other side, then pull the tensor down and put the belt on. Rotate the engine 90 degrees counterclockwise and tighten the tensor. Make sure to jam something in the flywheel when you tighten the tensor, because the crank will turn if you dont.

First make sure that the belt sseats properly. Then set the #1 piston at TDC, Losen the bolt on the adjuster pulley (no more than 180 degrees) and rotate the crankshaft 3 teeth on the camshaft pulley. Tighten the adjuster bolt to 40 pound feet and ur done.

#1 piston @ TDC is marked by a little line on the crank right? "and rotate the crankshaft 3 teeth on the camshaft pulley" I don't follow.

That's what I have been assuming so far. And the "and rotate the crankshaft 3 teeth on the camshaft pulley" basically means you gonna rotate the crank until one of the cam pulleys rotates 3 teeth. That'll set the proper tension.

Man we should race, see who can put their car back together quicker.

Okay, it's on. I'm waiting on motor mounts that were supposed to be in last friday.
I got my timing belt on really tight last night. your method helped a lot. Now, there should be two washers to keep your timing belt from sliding off. One on the inside & one on the outside. Then the plastic cover & crank pully.
