Default align cam with crank

just replaced the water pump and the timing belt on my 1994 civic ex...
now it wont start.
How do you line up the cam with the crank?
I put a paint mark on a tooth of the belt and on the 2 teeth on the cam like my haynes manual said...
Did the same on the crank sprocket... and transfered the markes to the new belt.
I have spark and I can hear the fuel pump winding up then I click the key 1 time...
the car didnt have a problem starting before I replaced the belt...
When I took the water pump off it was totally locked up... the belt didnt break but Im worried it slipped a tooth or two...
I STF but no real straight answer...
How does one go about lining the cam & crank if I got messed up during timing belt install?
thanks!
chris

Well your using a Haynes manual, and not a Helms, which would be your first problem. Your probably not timed right. Set the crank to TDC. It should already have a mark on it. Line your cam gear up to TDC as well. Retighten the timing belt. This might take a few tries to get perfect, because tighening the timing belt sometimes tends to throw it off a degree or two.
