Timing Belt Probs......fawk!!
I'm in tha middle of putting my motor together (JDM GSR block, built B16 head) and I'm havin some t-belt probs. The head was milled .015", now when I have everything lined up at TDC I install the belt crank, tensioner, w/pump, exh, int. I rotate the crank ccw and there is nice tension on the belt. But the slack between the exhaust gear and the crank throws the crank off 1/8" toward the exhaust side. the cam gears line up beautiful but the crank is just slightly off. Its actually hard to tell thats how close it is. I have adjustable gears which I advanced 1 degree to compensate for the milling.
My question is that I thought that milling retarded the timing, if I rotate the crank 1/8" CW back to the TDC mark it looks like the gears are advanced?
anyone heard of this? and is it better to run more advance timing for piston valve clearance?
I could just be too **** about it too, but I don't wanna bend valves. Thanks
