we rebuilt a distributor, but we do not remember which way to put the gear that meets the cam. I need to know on which cilinder (cable on the cap) is the ignition rotor suppose to be when the engine is at top dead center. If anybody knows... please help! thanks....

 

it can only go on one way... it should only line up to the cam one way. that's how i knew my new on was on right

 

I know... The thing is that the end that goes into the cam was removed in the process of rebuilding the distributor and now I'm not sure which way it goes... It fits on the cam only one way but it could be installed on the distributor shaft either way... its a 50/50 shot. It's either right of 180 degrees off. But I fouled my spark plugs trying to start the car and I don't want to waste another set. Thanks

 

well if it's wrong now, just take it off and flip it?
