i got a 93 civic and im thinking about putting in a b20.. ive looked that prices for just the motor and i was wondering if i could use my stock tranny or if i need to get a different one and what one i should get if i needed to

 

No your stock civic d-series tranny wont bolt up to that engine..You need some kind of b-series tranny..You can find hydro ls trannys everywhere for pretty cheap..

 

you have alot more research in front of you if you dont know this. i seriously advise you to spend 6months researching before purchasing a swap, especially a bseries swap. for the answer; any b series tranny will work, motor mounts will have to be swapped, throttle cable, shift linkage, tranny, ecu, a little wiring depending on the motor (b20b is one of the easier ones) and alot of money. even though the motor is only $600 dont plan on spending less than $1200-1500 or more on the whole swap.

 

i understand work and money is involved im not worried about that i just wanted to know what tranny will work... but thanks for tha answers..would it be better to go on and vtec the motor or no?

 

cheaper to add vtec to a B20, not even, add a chipped ecu or more expensive stock vtec ecu, vtec conversion, vtec head, and wiring. that should answer the question. i wasnt being a dick, i just dont wanna mislead you into thinking all you need was the new tranny.

Depends on your budget and how you want the motor to perform,last,etc..

 

o yea i understand..i wanna jus vtec my motor and stuff but i dont see the point in puttin all my money into my motor wen i get can just get a swap and work with they new motor

 

well, it depends on the outcome you are looking for. you can boost the sohc motor reliably alot cheaper than building a dohc, and replacement parts are cheaper. point is all things have to be considered, that where the research comes in. budget, performance, mpg, etc. have to be thought about before purchase. also, dont forget smog if thats appl. in mississippi.
