Default Cold air intake Driving in the rain......what to do?

I have AEM 1 pc CAI and i take it off always when it rains. I put the filter on the intake manifold. Will it get wet? I really dont want to ruin motor. What can i do to rain proof intake so i can drive in the rain?

you could drive with it if you dont go over any puddles or you buy a bypass valve, cut the pipe, and install. thats what i did on my prelude. and putting the filter on the intake manifold is pretty much a sure way not to end up with waterlock, unless you get somekind of freeky water movement in your water bay... sorta defeats COLD air intake, but works.

A small amount of rain will do nothing really to your air filter. Most people make a small shroud around it, but then it struggles to get air. I've been using a shortram and I have had no problems. There is also a tube leading from the front of the bumper to where my intake sits.

Leave your intake on, its fine. If you're worried about hydro locking your engine, either get a short ram, or get a bypass valve from aem. I highly doubt it rains enough in cali for there to be huge puddles. Water getting on your air filter is not going to destroy your engine. The only way you can hydro lock your engine is if the filter gets completely submerged in water. Its happened to me, I know.

Actually, in a lot of places in CA we have flood problems and when it rains, it really rains. Is your CAI a two piece? If so just take the bottom pipe out during the winter and put the filter on the top piece. Bam, ram air intake, good to go.

are you serious? buy an aem bypass valve. put it on your car. dont worry about ever having to change your intake pipe again. ive been driving like this for almost 2.5 years, over 45k miles, through flash floods and hydroplaning, and have never damaged my engine.

Just out of curiosity, do any of you know how the bypass valve actually works?
