I'm putting new discs and pads on my 93 civic coupe. Which bolts open the caliper up to change out pads? Which bolts disconnect the caliper from the disc? Do you have to disconnect the brake line?

 

no you dont have to disconnect the brake line.there are 2 14 bolts that hold the cal. in place. once the wheel is off. stick your head back there and u will see it

 

Are you talking about the two 16" bolts? The top one is difficult b/c of the brake line, thats why I asked if it had to be removed. Then there is also a 14" bolt at the bottom that has a rubber boot around it, whats that one for?

 

dont disconnect the brake lines, there are 2 bolts where the caliper slide pins are and if you take those out then you can take the caliper off. then push the caliper piston in with some big *** channel locks then slap them pads in then put eveything back together.

 

Do not take off brake lines....its not neccessary...however on some cars, the brake lines may have a little bracket that bolts them down out of the way; i think a small 8mm or 10mm bolt...just don't disconnect the brake lines or fluid will leak out all over...

Like the other guy said, take off rims and peek behind the calipers and there will be 2 bolts that hold the caliper in place; look around back there with a light and use common sense to see which undoes the calipers so you can slide them straight off the rotors...after you slide the calipers off; you want to loosen the bolts on the calipers themselves so you can kind of flip open the calipers; kind of like how a pocket knife flips open...once you flip open the calipers you can easily access the brake pads....put the brake pads in exactly as how you took them out...

For the front calipers, flip one of the old brake pad backwards against the piston and use a c-clamp to push the piston back and flush so you can fit brand new brake pads w/ calipers back onto the rotors.

is this confusing....sorry bro; its not hard but pictures sure would be helpful...sorry i can't help more.

Oh the rear is pretty much the same but you don't use a clamp to push the rear pistons back in...you use a flat head screw driver and screw them in until they are flush onto the calipers. A manual will really help with this if you don't understand what i'm saying.

If i gave bad/wrong advice someone please correct me.
