Default hot start problem + random stalling = bad main relay??? help pls.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

my baby has been giving me some problems lately.. she only starts when she is cold, and decides to die whenever she feels like it

- i own a 92 civic si w/ a boosted b18b which IS equipped with a msd ignition system

she starts perfectly fine when the engine temp is cold
- but if the engine is at operating temp when i attempt to start it... it just turns over

the car runs perfect when it actually starts - BUT there has been a few times when im driving and the engine stalls

----------------------could this be a problem with my main relay??????//

The main relay acts up with ambient temperature changes that cause the hairline fractures in the solder joints to open. Doesn't really sound like your problem. You could just pull it and resolder the joints to rule it out.

The TW sensor could cause a hot not start condition. When it gets flaky the ECU thinks the engine is cold and you end up flooding because of the overly rich mixture.

The stalling while driving points more towards a stock coil or ignitor problem, but I don't know what your MSD set up entails.

its the main relay. i have had this issue along with many others having the same.

Swap the main relay out and tell us what happens... its located up behind the fuse pannel.

is there anyway to check for a bad tw sensor?

as for my msd setup, my baby is equipped with:
msd 6al ignition box
msd blaster 2 external coil
msd distributor cap
msd rotor

It sounds like a loose wire in your ignition system. I had some what the same problem and it was a bad connection. Did this just start happening after putting on your MSD?

I searched the archives and saw your thread. I am having a very similar problem with my daughter's 94 Integra. Starts and runs fine when stone cold. Stop after the car has warmed up and go to restart and it just cranks. Let the car cool down and it starts right up! What did you finally determine the problem with your car to be? She is in South Carolina and I am trying to diagnose and fix the car by "telepathy". If I can diagnose the problem (or more precisely if you can diagnose the problem for me) and it is not acomplicated fix her boyfriend and his friend may be able to do the work (or maybe I will take a short vacation to SC next weekend)
Thanks for any help you may have.
