Default LSVTEC Hesitation

Alllright, i have read millions of posts with really long intros and I hate reading about how long you've had your car how many times a week you wash it and what your girlfriends name is. Everyone doesn't need to know everything about my car to offer advice.

What you do need to know is what the problem is so here we go. I recently noticed that my car is havin some slight hesitation issues at low throttle positions (0-15%). Also, sometimes after the car is completely warmed up it will occasionally suddenly drop idle and sputter like it wants to die, do that for a couple seconds (perhaps 10) and then idle back to normal. The engine is a fully built lsVtec with 12.5:1 compression, and ITR cams. I am quickly running out of ideas about how to solve this. Here is a list of things i have fixed/replaced in the troubleshooting process:

-replace cap and rotor with OEM parts from Honda
-replace spark plugs (NGK Vpower) with Denso Iridiums
-replace old plug wires (NGK) with MSD SuperCondutors
-tighten down fast idle valve (it was loose)
-replace IACV with new one from Honda (167$)
-replace air filter
-reset cam timing to stock
-remove and clean fuel injector screens
-accomplish compression test (210-220-215-210)
-accomplish leak down test (no defect)
-accomplish oil pressure test (within limits)
-replace vacuum lines to FPR

The only thing i can even think of to do next is pull the fuel pump out and check the screen on it. Anyone have any more ideas? Like I said... i feel kindof dumb that i can't figure this one out. Thanks in advance!

Ok... I've had multiple parts give similar problems, so here's my $0.02...

Fuel pump... is it stock ? B series or original sohc pump ? If it's sohc... it's kicking out... replace it with at least a B18c1 pump.

Try replacing the FPR itself with another stock unit... if the diaphram is dying, could be the issue.

The new spark plugs... did you bother to gap them ? The manufacturer's gap would be fine for a stock 10:1 CR, but you're pushing 12+... might need to adjust the gap considering.

Fuel filter... is it new ??

Lastly...how exactly did u clean the injectors ? A mechanic friend of mine cleaned my stockers with a spray cleaner pumped directly into the injector while pulsing it with a battery into a clean container. The debris that came out of EACH injector was SHOCKING ! This solved a similar hesitating problem for me.

Good luck.

i had a similar problem with my obd0 crx and now my friend is having the same problem with hiw obd2 gsr. what you need to do is check out your ecu, cause that is what i did to fix the same problem. i replaced the ecu casue i had some water damage. or if it is chiped it might be a bad bearn...

i did replace the fuel filter as well.

I gapped the plugs .42 as opposed to the .52 they came out of the box.

All i did to clean the injectors was take the screens out and blast them with carb. cleaner. But I'll try the trick you mentioned tomm, that sounds like a good idea!

It is the stock fuel pump, and the FPR is only a year old.

*edit- I'm sure there isn't any water damage to my ecu, it stays nice and dry up on it's mounts.

since ur name is hatch77.... i assume it''s a civic ?

if ur stock civic pump is still in place... even if it's not the source of this problem... REPLACE IT ASAP with a vtec B series or better pump. I ran my high compression B with the civic pump for a while and it ran ''fine''... but it was leaning out up top badly...driveability wasn't an issue at the time.... just a dead horse up top.

Unless you find another source of the problem, at least try swapping in a known good stock FPR from a friend or something to rule it out... it'll only take a few mins to do.

Yeah... that injector cleaning method blew my mind when I saw what came out. Still on stock 240's and I do it every 6 months now.
