Default new ek mini-me swap problems

well, I pulled off the head and found a crack in the #1 sleeve. It's a small vertical crack with a chipped off piece at the top. goes from the base of the sleeve, about 1/3 the way up on the outside. I can't see anything on the inside, but I'm guessing that's why I'm showing low compression numbers and blowing white smoke. 1--->4 174 174 200 200 psi its a 97 y7 with a y8 head and y8 head gasket. Any thoughts? should I try putting it back together and hope it was just an improperly seated headgasket, and maybe that crack has been there. or should I buy a new block. Any thoughts from you guys would be great
