was your alarm working before the keypad broke? If it was you shoud hear the siren chirp when you go into programming mode, now the older hf series (before my time) might not go to channel 8, they may only go to 3 or 4, maybe, I just don't know that much about the older ones. But if the alarm is working you open the driver door, turn the key to on, and push the valet button the right number of times then hold on the next push, the alarm will chirp. If it didn't chirp, the valet button might be bad, the door trigger might be disconnected, the alarm might not be seeing ignition; all of those things have to be right before the keypad can even begin to be programmed.
forget about programming it for a sec, just start the car and shut it off again. does the red light stop blinking? If that doesn't make it stop then it has no ignition input
so no siren chirp for programming is either a bad siren (try setting of the alarm) or a bad door trigger (again try setting it off). if you push the valet button a number of times does the led blink the same number?

fair enough, what about the valet button corresponding to the led, is it the same numberof pushes to blinks. I'm tryin to figure out if your even going into programming mode
my best guess says that it's because the 800HF you have doesn't go all the way up to channel 8 programming. The alarm starts out in programming mode but you pushed the button too many times and it doesn't know wtf to do.
the alarm is blinking the LED to let you know what number zone was set off during the last trigger, i believe, and that should reset to a solid off when you turn the ignition on then off
