Default new car + block guard

i just picked this up from my buddy, runs pretty decent, needs a tune then will run perfect......

now, if i get a block guard, low comp head gasket and arp studs, can i run like 14psi? i only boost while racing, otherwise i dont even take it above 3k. it doesnt have traction in any gear right now once it hits full boost+vtec at like 6k. i got bfg dr's that im putting on tomorrow, then it should be jsut fine though. also, the blue thing to the upper right of the fuel rail....what is it? it says vortec systems on it, is it a fpr? and yes, i also have matching wheels. it ran a 13.5 but trapped at 115, so it has 12's in it...it just needs the traction. im also thinking about a traction bar.

look at me being a post ***** (decided to help him out)

First off what are you 'tuning' it with. Since u have a FMU in there im assuming a VAFC or something of the like.

You shouldnt be looking for a certain number of PSI, you should be looking at a power goal. and more than likely you can run 14 on your stock motor with a good tune and 93 or so octane. Notice i said good tune. not an FMU and VAFC. Granted it could be done.

I cant tell if thats a b16 or a gsr.

Good 1/4 time.

Its late, im going to bed

gsr motor, im runnin 91 octane, im at a hick-college town, and cant get 93. i just wanna be safe on the motor. do ebay block guards differ from other ones? the only ones i can find are on ebay. what does fmu stand for? yea, its tuned with vfac, so its really not that tuned, i have a uberdata chip on the way, then its dyno time. im not all to concered about power, as i beat a 97 cobra with bolt ons this week i could like to run more boost, adn get a tune. i would like to be safe though, as i wont have money until i work again in the summer, at which point i see a 84mm dart block in my future im also going to try to get an equal length love-fab manifold. it has one on there now, just not equal length

Block guards are over rated do some searching honestly you should find some things. There was a thread on here about stock sleeves and what they can hold and some people were making 400-500 whp on stock sleeves so dont bother with the block guard.

I would not waste your time with a block guard. Use the money on an EMS and have it tuned. You will be suprised the results you will get with a quality ems and a good tune.

If i remember correctly the VAFC has no provisions to reduce timing as boost increases. Therefore raising your boost to 14psi will most likely be fairly risky. If you do decide to raise the boost make sure you dyno it with an air-fuel reading just to make sure your not running lean.

I know back a couple years before ems became affordable Inlinepro was producing some stock block 400hp cars using an fmu and vafc. But they are some smart peolpe and have been doing it for awhile now.

goodluck

im switching to uberdata hopefully this week

im still just worried about boosting on stock internals, and the block guard would give me piece of mind about cracking sleeves, especially with arp head studs and a low comp head gasket....

and i cant afford **** right now, im getting a job but ems is soooooooooooooooooooooo expensive.......

Good. Forget the blockguard - most say stay away from 'em. You don't need an EMS. Stay in here, do some searching and reading. Much, much cheaper options exist that will meet your needs -- Crome or Uber will do great.

i thought you can't run FMU and vafc hack? are you still running stock injectors under there? what ecu are u running? i think you need to look over that car really carefully.

imo u don't need a block guard.

115mph traps will get you 11's with slicks. For traction go with an LSD, better tires, better suspension, and a staged boost controller. Oh and forget the block guard, they are useless and do nothing. Anyhting under 500whp on stock B-series sleeves shouldn't be a problem at all with a good tune.

yea, i was talking about aem ems.... i know uberdata is a ems too, but i can afford that one it has 440cc injectors. i have been told to go every which way with this car, the guy i bought it from said the block guard/gasket/arp and then go 14psi and get it tuned. what boost controller should i get? manual or electronic?i just got the bfg dr's on there today, and now it sticks

If you're trapping 115 MPH alrady on 440CC injectors i'd be leary of pushing it too much harder. If you barely have money for uberdata, you don't have money to replace the motor when it blows.
