97 Civic DX Cat. Converter...?
My friend has a 97 DX coupe.. and his Check Engine light went on the other day and he took it in to get it checked, they said it was somethin w/ his o2 sensors, and it could possibly be a clogged Cat. so is there anyway to just take off the cat and put a flex pipe, or just make the exhaust straight through without messin up the o2 sensors.???
p.s. there is an o2 sensor before AND after the cat...
THANKS

ok, how many miles are on the car. honda has an extended warranty on 96,97 civics you never hear about. Heres the deal, if its under 150k and has never been to a dealership for warranty check engine light or emissions problems, they will cover it. two times before 150k is all they will cover. My 97 dx got a new converter and o2 sensors !!!!
Running a flex pipe in place of the catalytic converter won't work. You won't physically mess up the O2 sensors by doing so but what will happen is that the 2nd O2 output will be off from what it should have been if the catalytic converter was still in there and then you'll get a code.
So, just fix the actual problem is my advice.

Dont forget, the cat is built inside the exhaust manifold. good luck trying to get around that. but take my advice and see, you might get it covered under warranty like I did.
thanks for the comments.. but its got somewhere around 170,000 miles...
so i think the warranty is long gone
But thanks for the input.. i think hes just gonna get a cheap header w/ the 2 o2 bungs for now
