LS/VTEC Longevity

I searched, but didn't find exactly what I was looking for, so here is my question.
For those of you running LS/VTEC's or whoever have run LS/VTEC's in the past how long did your motor last, and why did it eventually die? Any modifications you had done would also help!
Ex: (this is my LS/VTEC)
B18b w/ B16a2 head.
Stock LS Bottom
Skunk2 IM, CAI, JDM B Pipe, GSR Cams
8k miles, w/ no problems redlined (8k rpm) once a day on average

my friend had his ls/vtec (97gsr head/ 91LS block) since around september (stock except for chipped ecu/free flow exhaust) still running strong and hasn't had a single problem with the motor.

This is why people think LSVTEC isn't reliable, because they try to drive it like a GSR motor. Remember that you shouldn't rev any higher than you did with the stock LS and it will be very reliable. None of mine or my friends' have ever died.

i've had my lsvtec for about 2 years now.. mods include skunk2 intake mani, dc sports header, passwordjdm intake, chipped ecu... runs fineand still pulls hard, but smokes a little.. but on spring break im swapping it out for a jdm gsr
*edit* im on stock internals and head .... gsr head on b18b block.. around 100k miles

Thanks for the replies. I know the R/S ratio sucks on the LS block, and the next thing to do once I get some fundage is build the bottom end. Until then I will take it easier. Keep 'em comin!
*edit*- are B-series block guards universal, or do i need to get a b18 block guard. this is probably a stupid question, but this is my first frank motor.

well i have two friends with this setup and both of them loved the power...but they both couldn't get it running well...so they sold it...but i'd say if you get it built right you should be fine... just dont pound on it like crazy...

It's already built, and it was definatly done right. Runs great, the purpose of the thread is to find out exactly how long these motors often last. I am just curious because I've heard conflicting things. (read first post)
Mine went about a year and a half before the wastegate (turbocharged) stuck on it and caused some major problems. All motor it ran great. I had a best time of 13.78 in the 1/4. I should have never put the boost on it.
ittl last forever it a honda for crist sake lol but for reall they good motors my buddy has one with a 100 shot and he rips on his and it still strong as hell
ive had 3 total ls-vtecs... the first one was a bone stock b18b block and spun the #1 rod bearing due to low oil + 8500rpm. The second one was another bone stock b18b bottom and threw a rod the day after i missed 3rd..(ericks racing chipped P28 with no rev limiter) and im pretty sure the motor saw 10K... third one is the one listed in my sig and no problems yet! this one sees 8200+ pretty often

yeah, but look at where you were revving to. 8500rpms + stock LS block=not smart

not smartat all!!, but fun for a couple weeks, especially since these blocks are a dime a dozen adn i can change it out in a day... but i did help prove the fact that when done right it is very reliable
