Yes to both if you build it right. If not your better off buying a stock motor

sounds like a gsr would be more convenient for your needs.

i'd say roughly 4,985 miles. if you're worried about it blowing up (as you should be), i wouldn't do the ls/vtec and instead get a vtec motor to begin with.

Doesn't sound like building a motor is "your thing" so just buy a stock motor and don't touch it. Less hassle for you I guarantee it.

If your looking to build then a properly thought out and built LS/V is a great motor which has been done many times over. But that comes as a cost most aren't willing to pay...

Ls vtec setups are as good as the quality of the build. Cut corners and get sloppy then yeah, they're unreliable. I think the main reason the setup gets a bad rep is due to people building these motors without the necassary components and getting mad when it blows up on them. For example, how many people on this board that bad talk ls/v probably used an lsvtec kit, vtec head, no internal work on the bottom end and no tune? They then proceed to enjoy hitting that "mad vtak" until their piece of **** ends up with a spun bearing... that they didnt replace from before the build. Or one of those rods that they never decided to have shotpeened decides to exit the block. The list goes on. People are stupid

i think the main reason people build an ls/vtec is to get a vtec motor for cheaper than a regular gsr/itr motor. somebody that's on that kind of a budget isn't going to go to the expense of getting new rods, pistons, and whatever else. if on a restricted budget, i always recommend a stock gsr motor over some crappy ls/vtec motor.

build it right if possible and get the correct tuning like the air fuels being good as long as its tuned correctly you will be fine and arp rods bolts would also be good to rev up to 8000 rpm.

Agreed, if youre impatient and working with limited funds then a stock vtec motor would probably be a better route. Hopefully though we can agree that when built properly ls/vtec and cr/vtec setups can be very reliable and excellent power makers. A friend of mine only uses cr/vtec setups for his honda challenge track car and street car. Outside of a faulty oil line breaking once and some issues with a previous tune (not the builds fault), no problems what so ever. I work in retail sales for now and I've never used my shitty pay as a reason to cut a corner on anything. I'm patient and save for what I need so I can avoid issues later.

Or for the simple added stroke that it provides. It does have advantages and can be a great platform.

LSs are known to have weak rod studs, install some arp rod studs and polish the crank and you should be good
