Default VTEC Controller?

I'm going to swap a H22a in my 95 Accord. One of my friends told me to get a VTEC controller, should I? And what is a VTEC controller?

Without a controller vtec won't work since your car probably doesn't have it, All it does in simple terms is engage vtec at whatever RPM you set it to do so.
I'm a little rusty on the first year the Accord got vtec...

Uh, bad advice You don't need a vtec controller for vtec to work. A unit such as the VAFC2 allows you to change the rpm point at which vtec engages.

What he said. Plus a VTEC controller doesnt do much. You would have better luck with a chipped ECU (P28 or P72). Plus if you do the swap you use the prelude ECU (P13) which should engage the VTEC at around 5200 or something like that wherever the stock setting is set at.

There's some misinformation going on in here...

Jay84ever, I'm assuming that you will be using the Prelude's ECU when you swap in the H22, and not the Accord's. You should, unless you run a chipped ECU. But for simplicity's sake, use the Prelude's ECU.

You don't NEED a VTEC controller. All it does is allow you to alter the rpm that VTEC engages. The only time I suggest altering the engagement is if you're on a dyno, which will let you know if it's helping or not, along with how much to change the fuel settings.

It seems you're new to this... Check out the FAQ in the Prelude forum. There are some really informative links there.

i think 1994 was the first year accords got v-tec. cause the EX model had it i think. i think so long as the has the right ECU then the v-tec should work

Yeah of course it's a VTEC, EX! What's the point of not have a VTEC. I'll probably use the prelude ecu, whatever the swap requires. I'm not really new at this, I just don't post much. I read a lot of posts.

I JUST TOOK OUT MY P13 AND VAFC AND GOT A CHIPPED ECU. IT WAS THE BEST THING I EVER DID FOR THE CAR
