Default Lightweight Flywheel With Lightweight crank pulley

It was brouight up today that "something" ( bad or not balanced or something) when you add a Lightweight Flywheel such as Fidanza and a lightweight UDP Crank pulley.

I wish I could make sence of this and make it sound more logical, but this is what I was told, thats why im posting it here to make sence of it.

Basically they said no UDP AND lightweight Flywheel. Now I don't know if this is with or without boost.

But if I could have a better explaining of it (If it is true) that would be knowlage for me.

it is not good to use an udp that doesnt have a harmonic balancer. if you search for civic n1 or type r pulley (i think) you should find numerous threads where people have shattered their oil pump gears due to the pulleys not having a balancer. an import mechanic I know said he had to rebuild two b16's that had udp with no balancer , because it messed up the main bearings due to not being balanced. im sure someone else can elaborate better.

ok, I could care less about what you said, I know MAY people running UDP's and I ahve been running them on ALL my cars, even My ford Wich uses a SMALLER pulley.

Back to my question about the combo w/ flywheel and UDP. Mabey it's with boost that you can't combine both of them?

This is known to be correct. It may work for some time or even a long time, but it could possibly damage your engine, especially under boost. My brother just had his b16 fully built and the machine shop told him that the crank was worn down. You can do what you want though. I think a lightweight crank pulley is a waste of money. Just my 02.

I think I can put in my two sense on this. The flywheel and crank pulley on your engine weigh so much for a reason. That reason is to fully balance the crankshaft so there is no vibration. If there is not enough weight on each end (for example a lightweight flywheel and crank pulley) there will be unwanted vibrations, this can cause the oil pump to over work the pump by moving to fast, get hot and expand the gear past it's tolerances thus causing it to shatter. This doesn't occur to everyone there are the lucky few, and it's more likely to happen on a turbo'd engine. Somebody correct me if i'm wrong but I believe thats accurate.

ok basically what your saying is it's off balance= Crank walk.

Thats For Hondas, with my Ford the motor is Internally balanced

But I do belive the Hondas are as well.....

So it's the UDP that causes this, not the lightened flywheel, correct?

Don't confuse harmonic damping with engine balance.Every time a cylinder fires it sends a shock-wave (harmonic) thru the piston and rod into the crank. The damper/pulley cancels out this harmonic.A solid pulley allows this harmonic to continue and it will damage parts.A light flywheel and light damper pulley will work fine.It will rev quick but stall a little easier.

you dont have to be a smartass to someone that took the time to give you some input on your question. Im so happy for you that youve got pulleys on everything, I had asp pulleys on my s10, and esslinger on both of the zx2's I had. big f***in deal, your in a honda forum, most of us could care less about your zx2, next time you wanna be a d**khead why dont you boost yourself over to a zx2 forum and see if they can give you better answers. people like you are why alot of people cant get good answers to their questions because people like me just lose interest in trying to help, or bump you back to the top. anyway maybe since im bumping this to the top again you will have some better luck with answers since i guess im a f**cking idiot.
