Ok my buddy has a 99 passat 1.8T auto, it shut off while he was driving now it wont start, just crank and cranks. its dark and we had to move it to a parking lot so i cant look at it tonight but I am thinking a coil pack is bad since its common on 1.8T's...I smell fuel so I dont think its the fuel pump. Well im just tryin to get a heads up for tomorrow when I work on it, cant find a coil pack anywhere either, I guess he will have to get raped by the dealer.

now that i think about it, it doesnt sound like its running on 3 cyl, if one coil was bad the other 3 would be somewhat trying to start. obviously ill check each coil tomorrow but i found that interesting. the engine just spins nothing else.
