my oil light came on tonight
i was pulling into a gas station which the entrance was pretty steep, as soon as i got at an angle the oil light came on and flickered for a bit then stayed on until i could going and cut the car off and coast to the gas pump. i know the car was a little low on oil, but nothing more than a quart.
i put in a quart of oil and drove around for 15 mins and it wasnt knocking or anything, it was running fine after that...
could the oil pickup lost a bit of pressure while i was on the steep edge? i only left it cranked 5 secs after it came on.

there can be a lot of factors which explained why your light came on
-bad oil pump
-bad pickup line
-oil too thin, ex. 5w20 when your car recommends 10w30
-clogged filter
-low oil level = low pressure</TD></TR></TABLE>
well im thinking that since i was on the incline when it came on, since it was low on oil thus causing low oil pressure and it didnt pick up any oil and triggered the light to come on?

thats the ohh **** light, it comes on when you have 4psi of oil pressure. I wouldnt be surprised if you start to hear knocking from the engine or spin a bearing. In the future check your oil a little more frequently
why dont cars just come with a psi gauge. with a redline at the bottom instead of the top. then everyone would know when to pay attention to it. im going to invent a gauge that can read the oil level while the cars running. that would be the best thing ever, because checking the oil is somehow a thing i neglect doing enough/
my oil light came on once. ended up being a lose nut on the oil pickup, causing for low oil pressure. tighten it up and no more oil light. good luck with your fix!

It's not 10psi: my engine runs at 10psi almost all day at idle after it's warm. Been doing so ever since I've had the gauge on it with no troubles and not once has the oil pressure warning light come on. She's at 264,000+ and going strong, abused daily.
