Does it crank good when starting? Do the lights go dim while cranking? Did you check the battery volts when it wasn't running? Should be a little over 12 volts. Could just be a bad, or corroded connection. Check your battery cables for white stuff (both ends).

test your alternator. Most likely the voltage regulator has failed.

If it sometimes goes on, then turns off; you could have alternator armature brushes which have worn to the point they require replacing.
If it stays on constantly, check all your fuses, You cpuld have a feed-back problem.
It's also possible that you've got an internal Cluster problem (but let's leave this to last)

last time my light came on my crank pulley broke and the tension on the belt loosened up and i got a weak charge when running. Dunno how but I was able to drive 15 miles on a broken crank pulley without overheating, without losing power steering, and without losing all electrical. I know, stupid move.

Like it or not, Honda took it upon themselves to drive the water pump with the Timing Belt, not the accessories drive belts (like on other cars).
It's nice that it kept you from overheating, but god help you should the water pump bearing fail and takes out the timing belt.
You'll have more thatn overheating to worry about.
