Default Jumper ECU to set timing???

I have an LS motor in my 93 hatch and just put a new distrubitor in. I read some where that you have to jumper the ECU then set the timing? is this true or can I just use the timing gun and set it

You have to jump the service connector, which is behind the glove box on the right hand side.

OK so I jumpered the ecu and set it - now that the ecu isnt jumpered if I point the timing gun at it it isnt where it should be....... also my car is boosted so I kinda want to make sure this is right
