advancing timing
Does anyone know if you have short something before advancing the timing on a 93 H23A engine OBD1? I've heard that without shorting this wire, that the ECU will set the timing back to factory after having advanced it.
by shorting the little connector, which on my car is right by the ecu you get a more accurate reading. I think I did this once but now I just eyeball it. It's probably a good idea to do though
I believe by shorting the wire you are disabling the electronic advance. You will need to do this to properly set the timing. In your case you may want to keep it disabled, however I don't really know for sure.

You'll want to jump the 2-pin connector(under dash, behind radio), set the timing, turn the car off and remove the jumper. Now the car should hold the timing you just set it to. If you check most manuals, it tells you do to this procedure.
I remember someone a little bit ago bragging that he figured out how to fool the ecu into accepting the timing advance, in an obd2 prelude. All you need to do is keep this wire jumpered, and the settings will stay, but this is not recommended by honda nor myself, but hey if it works, it works!
