Default revlimit at around 6500 - 7000

Hey ALL, quick ques. I got in my S at lunch today and got on it before the tranny warmed up. I don't ususally drive hard until the tranny/eng warms up, but today I did and the car would NOT carry through the rpm's, felt like it hit the rev-limiter around 6500-7000. Is this due to the cold tranny, because after a bit I tried again and the car drove perfect, hitting redline everytime. SO can someone please explain to me what happened and if your car does this too.

PS - 04 AP2

it's called a dual stage rev limiter..... before the car is warmed up it's set at a lower rpm so you don't do stupid **** and damage your motor... once it's warmed up properly, it's set at the normal redline...
