Default sleeve replacement? engine builders chime in

looking into getting a used dart block. one of the sleeves is supposedly cracked. I havent had a chance to look at it yet. I had originally planned to send my stock ITR block out and have it sleeved. Im wondering if I can just replace the sleeve on the dart block instead? Like send it out, have it resleeved, new rods, pistons, etc? or is a cracked sleeve unfixable? I checked the dart site, says the sleeves are "replaceable ductile iron dry sleeves". Does that mean any sleeve will work? or would it have to go back to dart to be fixed? I intended on using ERL sleeves on my ITR block.

i remember that the dart sleeves were supposed to beable to be replaced individually. id call ERL or someone who actully worked with dartblocks/ dart sleeves and see what their pinion of replaceing sleeves are.

personally id stick to your first plan and send your block out. that way you know all the sleeves are in evenly and fresh so you wont have problems down the road with a block with one new sleeve.

if ur getting the dart block cheap than pick it up it is a much stronger better platform and is just as easy to replace a sleeve as it is stock and you could sell your itr block to fund the process

Bensons will NOT let you down if you end up sending it out

To Earl Laskey and Dan Benson

I would take a look through this page:

There seems to be a lot of minor 'cleaning up' that takes place when prepping a Dart block.

I know Benson does great work, just not looking forward to shipping my block all the way to California. Id rather hand deliver it and pick it up myself to ERL. Only reason Im looking into getting the Dart block is so I have the ITR as a spare STOCK block. If I replaced the sleeve on the Dart block, I would replace ALL of them, not just the cracked sleeve. I guess Ill call ERL and see if it can be done.

I sent my block out (dart sleeves) and I haven't had no problems. my bottom end is damn near bulletproof. I recommend sending it out.
