Yup, it's time! Get yourself a Haynes manual; they have a great walkthrough for changing a fuel filter. Haynes is not as comprehensive as the Helms, but it's a helluva lot cheaper and good for general tune up info.

Changing the fuel filter is really pretty easy, but BE CAREFUL! Remember, gasoline will light up from the tiniest spark.

Changing the filter can improve your fuel efficiency, idle, etc. Most importantly, a new fuel filter puts less strain on your fuel pump! That's definitely a big benefit! HTH

the fuel filter in your car is designed to be a lifetime filter. you only need to change it if your having fuel delivery problems.

you should however change your spark plugs, cap, and rotor.

I would have to disagree. Fuel filters just like any filter will not last the entire life of the car. I do not have the exact milage remembered off hand when you are supposed to replace the fuel filter, but I beleive it was between 60-90k miles

I checked in my owners manual and the helms manual and I couldn't find a mileage interval for replacemnt. However, I am of the opinion that they should be changed. the helms says to put pressure gauges on the lines and see if they are up to spec... blah... blah... why bother? just change it at a reasonable interval. just did mine at 26k miles. may be all in my head, but I swear the car runs better after changing it. I'd say every 30 k miles is about right. filter was only $20. good luck.. and be careful when working with gasoline.

Passenger side firewall, right next to the battery.

It is not a lifetime filter... 30k miles, 2 years... or if you run into some bad gas, and notice a lack of acceleration under WOT... That's alwasy a good place to start. Very easy to do.

must be... the first thing they say to do when changing the fuel filter is to disconnect the battery.

Bah! just don't arc anything to the positive terminal of the battery and you'll be fine. There should be a cover over the pos. terminal anyway.
