you dont need to if you are running under 8psi or so and have good compression in all the cylinders. if you want to run high boost (id say 10 and up) then you would want to get pistons and rods.

LOL... man... thiss like like "i am going autocrossing...dod I need a roll cage?" The real question is... how far down the rabbit hole do you wanna go? You will not be able to run any large amounts of boost, but you can run them just fine. And actually you can extract a decent amount of power with stock rods... the key is sin the tuning...timing ect. With just a FMU... yeah I would recomend about 8 lbs also. And a piece of advice...read everything you can

I didn't on my B18A1, and it ran great! ...for only a year. I blew the headgasket once, then blew the headgasket again and spun a bearing on 8.5 psi.

It's great fun while it lasts, but it can be a ticking time bomb. If this isn't your daily driver, I say go for it.

Honestly I wouldn't turbo a d-series, one because as much as you spend on a turbo you could by a b16 and other is d series turbo w/ vtec don't get a long (experienced) but yeah you would need to get new p-rods and crank and cams if not that then cams but don't boost over 7psi -8 at max

d series engines dont like boost??not even true, people boost D's all the time and put out some nice numbers. as long as u have a good tune, which is the case with every engine that is boosted

maybe if he gets oem rods and stuff stay under 7-8psi. ive seen a d16z6 running 12 psi complete stock with 185k on it still running just fine till this day (going on 2 years). like everyone says its all in the tuning, and not getting cocky with boost. id say with rods and pistons you can run 10-12 psi, i dont know about anymore because of the stock sleeve issue. most people run 7-8 psi on all stock original internals, as its constantly said tuning is where it matters.
