hi, ive got a 95 civic with a b18b. i recently fried a piston ring so i figured while im down there why not beef it up. ive got around $650 to spend and i want to get 8.5:1 pistons and rods. anyone know of web sites or brands i should look for? thanks

i only have 9:1 right now on stock internals, but with the less compression i run the more boost i can run, unless someone gives me a logical reson not to? come on guys want to do this soon. any sites or suggestions?

Only $650???? How long do you want it to last? 2 weeks? Multiply that figure by about 2 and then you'll have good rods and pistons...not ssautoshit rods and pistons



This setup cost me just at $1200. Crower rods and SRP pistons with JE rings. And these are 9.9 CR instead of stock 10.2 for a B16.

if you are going forged rods/pistons get higher compression, the higher compression the less boost it takes to get the performance you want.

Yes, but then you have a better chance of getting detonation and the ignition curve becomes less conservative.

Just do some research and see what others have done and then decide. DON'T RUSH.

I'm going to assume you're NA. I wouldn't have gotten Crower rods if I were only getting SRPs.

Yes, but the possibility of detonation is much higher. Don't think he wants to run race gas on a DD.

Personally I'm getting Eagle rods and CP pistons for my next build (300whp turbo-D). I'll be getting Manley rods for the next build (400whp for over the winter.)

I'd go with CP or Weisco pistons because I've heard good things about them, and the Eagle rods because they fit my budget right now.

Check the marketplace FI sponsors section. I think for Ealge rods and CP pistons w/ rings and ACL bearings it's around 800-850.

ive been reading up for like a mounth now and people with turbo cars always mostly go lower compression, and im not rushing this ive been looking for a while now what sites should i look at?

im not saying get some 12:5 pistons or **** like that, i wouldnt do that unless i was runnin an all-motor set up.. but w/ some 10:1 or something higher then 8 or 9 u get more power, and just tune tune tune till it runs perfect. basically, unless you're ready to spend enough money to get it right w/ the tuning, you shouldn't be turbo'ing u're car period. and of course the forged rods/pistons and sleeve is nice too.

I'm boosted. I have crower becasue they are good. Plus if I need to rebuild I can reuse them, unless something terrible happens. I'm only getting up to about 15 psi. I almost got the eagle/CP combo when I talked with Earl. Good choice for going with that setup.

Yeah, I'm getting the Eagle/CP setup for now, and then over the winter when I want to go for 400+ I'll probably get Manley's.

Thats fine and all, but your comment about it blowing up if you only spent $650 on pistons and rods is a little out of line. I can assure you that for ~$700, one can get a NICE piston/rod setup that will be sure to handle quite a bit of power. For only planning on 15psi, I think you overkilled the whole deal a million times over.
