Default Thermal Shield Intake Gasket (yes searched)

was lookin at ways to get cooler air to my engine (ie - cai) and came across this as well:

http://passwordjdm.com/product...D=361
^^Password:JDM Thermal Shield Intake Gasket

It claims it's supposed to keep the IM from heating up from the engine block which allows cooler air to pass into the engine block from the intake allowing more HP. any1 have this? ne input on it? thought it'd be a good combo with a cai so i thought id give it a shot.

i know hondata makes em and outlaw engineering does too (but not for d-series which is what i have..d16y8). but i read on clubcivic that 1 guys melted . id like to hear input from h-t before i purchase this.

example?

id really like to purchase this product because:
1. its cheap
2. with a cai, it'd help the engine get even colder air and be a good combo
3. this:

but like i said, i heard this 1 guy saying his melted within days and he knew for sure it wasn't his engine overheating. 1 testimony is enough for me to think twice about a product.

Link? Text? Email? Guy himself?

I'd like to see proof and pictures of said 'testimonial' before taking it as gospel. But hell, I heard from your girlfriends, moms, brothers, aunts husband that you're gullible. Is it true?

nope, and i'm positive that my car didn't over heat since i've never once seen it over heat, not even at that time, i remember smelling coolat in the air, back of the head was moist, aswell as the block, so i took it off, and saw where it had melted from the coolant passage that runs right where the coolant flow from the head, into the manifold flange and down into the t-stat housing, since i took it off i have not had any issue.

and once again, i want a thermal shield intake gasket for a d16y8

I don't want a direct quote.

I want a direct link to the original text, I want pictures. When I see it with my own eyes, or if I see it happening a lot. Then I'll lend credit to the story.

My Experiance with the Password IM Gasket wasn't so positive!!!!

I just installed a P assword TS Gasket along with an ITR intake Mani on my B16 two weeks ago, What a pain in the *** that was!!!!!!

The gasket seems to be too soft IMO, When we first installed everything, I was having coolant seaping and air leak issues.
The bolts were all tightened down to exact spec, but when we thought we were done and started the car, All Hell broke loose.

We then shut the car down and tightened every bolt down another 10lbs, But to my surprise....There was still a bad vac leak comming from the bottom of the gasket.

My buddy (ASE Cert. mechanic) then was pissed and decided to rechet the bolts down to feel, {This is were it starts going down hill} while coming to the last bolt, he torqued the mani down to much and cracked it right were the coolant nipple meets the first intake plenium.
I had to order a new OEM gasket, have the mani crack welded back together, and Honda-bond/Blue sealant the head and intake manifold up.

So,...What is the thought of the Password Intake shield gasket?.........
A solid waste of time and money.

BTW: I've done 6 Intake Mani swaps on friends vehicles, and never had a problem until it was my own car.
So it wasn't lack of experiance that turned this install to crap.

There's my $.02

Quick question:

Why are you concerned about a 20 degree drop in intake temperatures on your SOHC VTEC engine? If it's free, go ahead - if not, why the expletive are you wasting your time?

it really doesnt help out all that much, and for 60 bucks you could spend your money elsewhere

it does keep the intake manifold from heating up as fast, but after a bit of driving it will still be as hot as the rest of the bay

i can imagine it wouldn't help it cool drastically but i find it hard to imagine it wouldn't do nething after a while. the point of it is to reduce direct heat giving off from the engine block. now obviously heat coming off the engine will sooner or later warm the IM but the thermal intake shield stops direct heat contact from the engine block. and its not like the engine gets hotter and hotter throughout the day until u turn it off at night.

im just sayin the gasket stops direct heat contact from the block but obviously heat coming off the engine will sooner or later heat up the IM a tad bit. so it just lowers the temp of the IM air passing into the engine block.
