Gizzmo Phenolic Thermal Gasket
What are these intake manifold gaskets like, do they actually offer performance benefits? Also has anyone heard of Gizzmo or had any dealings with them?

You mean intake manifold gasket?
My Honda OEM gasket does and it only cost $5.
Unless your engine is fully built, spend your money on something else.

Regardless, you can make your own with a hole saw and a piece of LEXAN from Home-Depot. I'm serious, too. Just make sure it's 1/4in thick or more and port-match it to your TB. Bam, phenolic gasket.

LEXAN is not specifically made to withstand heat, but it is incredibly resilient...let me go online and bring up some information about the molecular structure and heat tolerance of LEXAN, because I know there's a huge difference in how it reacts based on cross-sectional thickness.

Re: Gizzmo Phenolic Thermal Gasket (Archidictus)
Here's some information I just pulled up:
"Lexan polycarbonate is one of the most widely known "plastics". Lexan sheet with its unique combination of high impact strength, flame retardancy, and thermoformability makes it ideally suited for security applications. No other plastic can match Lexan's combination of light transmittance (clarity), and the ability to withstand extreme impact.
In thicknesses of .125", Lexan 9034 sheet will transmit 86% of the light. Lexan 9034 is UV stabilized, has a heat deflection temperature of 270 degrees F at 264 PSI, and has a smoke density rating less than 75. Lexan 9034 is engineered for window glazing as well as for sign applications. In addition to colorless (clear), Lexan 9034 is available in solar gray and bronze in thicknesses from .080" to .500". "
I highly doubt that your intake mani or throttle body gets 270+ degrees or that the pressure inside your system attains more than 264psi (unless you're boosting via turbine ). I'd say go for it.

I used to work for a company that specialized in plastic fabrication, and there is no way I would use Lexan (polycarbonate) for a gasket or insulator. It will soften and deform at 220 degrees, and can be formed (bent) at around 300. Lexan also will crack under the clamp load from the IM bolts over a period of time. Phenolic is a resin that is reinforced with paper or fiberglass, and is much more stable and heat resistant. Phenolic will not crack or deform causing vacuum leaks due to the pressure exerted by the torquing of the IM bolts.

do they sell to the public?</TD></TR></TABLE>
They might, I'd give them a call. I used to work here:http://www.mgmplastics.com and they do sell retail, I'm not sure about mail order, though. I recommend looking for similar companies in your area.

phenolic is way different from lexan. a phenolic spacer is a layered fiber and resin process that can be made for various applications. If you contact a plastics company, they can get you a sheet large enough to make an IM gasket for about $15. I'd be worried about getting a vaccuum leak with lexan, especially at 1/4" thick, that thing is gonna be stiff.

is this something similar?? or just a knock off.. </TD></TR></TABLE>
That looks like UHMW (ultra high molecular weight) Polyethylene. It should work ok, but I would prefer Teflon. Teflon would be way more expensive though.

ive seen Phenolic sheets for sale on ebay also.....just typed it in and found several auctions with an array of products made of it as well as blank 1/4" sheets. 24.99 for three and something stupid like 20 for shipping
