Default VTEC problem-- please help

ok, so i have a d16y8... it seems like lately my vtec isn't kicking in as strong as it usually has, or it takes a few runs to start kicking in like it should... i know it's only a SOHC, but it's pretty loud for what it's worth...

i checked the oil (10w-30), it is filled... my car is always fully warmed up...

*on a side note, i'm almost positive i need a new PCV valve, would this have anything to do with it?

* new oil pump?

* should i change to a different viscosity oil since my engine is getting older? (i have like 115,000 miles on it)...
