I've been shopping around for new headlight bulbs for my 5th gen and was wondering what would be the best to go with. Some people suggested Sylvania Silverstar.

Bump I'm wondering about this as well. I was going to go with a HID kit but after some research they appear to suck because of horrible glare issues. I'm not interested in a retrofit myself.

bro, the glare you are talking about are the ones that just get a KIT... a retrofit would be totally different... the glare is produced if the HID KIT was just used with the stock headlight housing... RETROFITS are the way to go if you wanna get some HIDs really bad... it wouldn't BLIND oncoming traffic and people who are driving in fron of you... it would be serving its purpose and it would be worth the $$$ as well...

i do not have any personal experience with this myslef but i've been reading about it and all... someone correct me if i am wrong...

 

My friend had silverstars in his car. They burn out every 4 months or so. I recommend hella bulbs or raybrig. Got mine from tirerack.com.

I was talking about the HID kits when I said they create glare. I just added that I don't want to do a retrofit either at the end of my post because hacking up my factory headlights is out of the question. I'm just not interested in doing that. I want to the keep everything as factory as possible but still do upgrades.

hmm, probly just get some really well known halogen bulbs.. was taking a look at some yesterday and found a few... some brands that are pretty good are RAYBRIG & HELLA... im pretty sure there are more out there but i dont really know them so you might wanna ask around here more and all...

seeing it from what hu wrote, probly be best to go with either of the two... probly more worth it or something..

 

Get some PIAA bulbs. I believe they come with a 1 year warranty as well.

piaa's are DOT and SAE certified, factory wattage, and their extreme whites are the closest to sunlight out of any halogen. and yes piaas have a 1 yr warranty.

 

just wanted to know about the PIAAs... how do they perform? is it pretty decent?

i am choosing between RAYBRIGs & PIAAs now... if i get the PIAAs, i'll be getting the XTREME WHITE PLUS... do theylight up the road pretty well?

any info would be greatly appreciated... TIA

Raybrigs and PIAA's are good choices. They're pricey, but they come with a good warranty.

I'm currently running two Silverstars for my highbeams, and I have a retrofit for the lows. I'm just counting down the days until the Silverstars burn out, then I'm gonna go buy some higher wattage PIAA's for the highs.

I had raybrigs. I believe they burnt out about 3 months after.

Get OSRAM Silverstars, not Sylvania Silverstars.

They are way brighter than stock no BS like PIAA. They dont even sell them in the US because they are not DOT approved.

 

OSRAM's just don't have the slight tint that Silvanias do, and honestly you cannot tell any difference in brightness.. The sylvanias have a VERY slight tint on the bulb..

the +20/30/50% bulbs are iffy about actually being brighter..

how were the bulbs? how did they perform? did they light up the road well?
