Tranny fluid change....
Just have a question for the group here...
My mechanic told me that the screen in the Automatic is not changed just the fluid. How wrong does this sound? He told me it is too far in and is only changed if you rebuild the transmittion.
Any thoughts?

Sad, but true. There is several screens (two of which can be cleaned), but the rest are unservicable. These reside under the shift and torque converter control solenoids, but should be left alone unless you're seeing specific issues involving them.

filter is internal to the trans and unless something is comming apart, it shouls last the life of the auto.
As long as you change the fluids when it is time, the 5th gen auto shouls outlast the rest of the car. These trannies easily make it 200,00+ miles and I have seen some with 450,000+ on the original automatic.

There is, but it's mounted to the Primary Valve Body and requires disassembly of the trans to access. Read my previous post. It will save me from repeating myself.

For the Northeast iron belt (east of Detroit to Boston) we drive in what Honda considers "Severe" Conditions. They call for Trans Fluid Changes every 30k. I drive primarily Highway and change it every 50k.

Living in Southwest PA near Pittsburgh (Home of next Superbowl Champions <---Tomorrow) So I will take it that I should do the every 30K thing too??
i guess u can follow the owner's manual of every 30k/2year interval...
my wife's car had no previous records w/ the sale & since doing this job is as easy as an oil change (curently has 103,ooo miles on it), i do it more frequently for @ least the 1st 2 years in my possession.

Just HAD to get that SuperBowl plug in there didn't you? lol
In answer to your question, Yes (maybe)
* If you spend every living moment navigating around the metropolitan area (how the &^%* do I get out of the 'berg?
), yes 30k is about right
* If most of your driving is Highway commuting you can stretch it out to maybe 50k
For the average driver (AAA Stat). 15k is about it / per year. So if you go
30k / every two years or
50k / every two years
either will work

GO STEELERS!!!! I plan on changing my fluid every 15,000 miles. And since I change it myself, I will save the receipts and use only Honda ATF=Z1. This way if my trans ever has problems, I will have proof that I've done all I could to keep it trouble free. It's not hard to do, and costs less than $20. That's cheap insurance.
