sup guys i recently converted my 98 automatic civc LX into a 5-speed, im still rockin my d16y7 w/mild built head...but the 5-speed tranny is from a 92-95 ex, and my shift linkage is from a 99-00 civic....
NOW MY QUESTION IS IF MY TRANNY IS FROM AN (EG) DOES THAT MEAN I HAVE TO USE AN (EG) SHIFT LINKAGE OR AM I FINE WITH THE (EK) ONE? THE REASON WHY I CHOSE TO USE THE (EK) SHIFT LINKAGE WAS BECAUSE I FIGURED I HAVE AN (EK) CHASSIS SO MIGHT AS WELL USE THE (EK) ONE... BUT IM HAVING A FEW COMPLICATIONS WITH (EK)SHIFTER THATS WHY IM ASKING... ITS NOT SMOOTH WHENEVER I SHIFT GEARS.. I MEAN THERES NO GRINDS WHAT SO EVER ON THE TRANNY BUT ITS NOT LIKE I CAN JUST THROW IT IN EVERY GEAR SMOOTHLY, ITS LIKE SOMETHING IS PREVENTING ME TO THROW IT SMOOTHLY, LIKE I HAVE TO FORCE IT A LITTLE BIT TO GET IT INTO GEAR...
PLEASE LET ME KNO WAT YOU GUYS THINK THE PROBLEM IS CUZ I DONT...
THANKS IN ADVANCE GUYS...

ya mine use to do that
the bushings at the bottom of the shifter rod were bad...my mechanic (before I did my own work) put some tape around them to stiffen it up but it only fixed them temporarily
but once I got a new short shifter, the looseness went away
I had tried a shifter bushing kit, but it didnt include that bushing itself
so my advice, if you want real nice and crisp shifting, treat yourself to a short shifter, and while you're at it, get a bushing kit, and you're set
