HIDs with stock headlights?
ok so i was reading the HID thread, and i still had a few questions... if i was to use the stock eg headlights, would that mean i would have shitty output? would it matter if i used the JDM headlights? i ask this because projectors arent really my style.. i was just wondering... thanks

Natural?! WTF does that mean? I bet it looks like rice considering you get that eerie lame purplish/blue glow coming from 10,000K capsules.

ANd yes you can use hids with out projectors.. depending on what model you get.. I had Murano ones in my usdm ej1 headlights, and it looked fine, no glare, and had a nice out put. i could see everything. then i had a setof maxima ones in my JDm headlights, and same thing..

what was said above and you have to have a special reflector or projector otherwise the light output will suck ***** and blind everyone

Not true. 2003 Acura TL for example. OEM HIDS, no projectors.
However, retrofit is the way it should be done for much better output.

can someone explain exactly what a "retrofit" is? Someday I'd like HIDs on my EM1. but there aint a snowballs chance in hell I'd get some funky projectors..

LOL thats what retrofits are, projectors fitted into modified stock housings

retro fit just means make fit.
As far as the HID's... the problem with HID's in a stock non-HID housing is when the housing you're putting HID's into has only ONE bulb... IE a dual filiment bulb that works as both the highs and the lows...
becuase then when you put the HID bulbs in... that's it they're on and they're ALWAYS pointing like that... there is no dimming them.
THe most common retro fit is using the dual beam HID's that come on some audi's and bmw's ... it has a motor attached to the bulb that positions it differently for high and low beams... It's also inside of a projector so you basically just isntall it as a whole unit into whatever headlight housing... the output will vary from housing to housing depending on the lense of the housing... Clear lense will obviously allow the light to do what it was designed to... the refractor lenses that are on most of our cars are not as well suited as they will refract the light instead of letting it travel on the path it was meant to.
