Help, Bad distributor or igniter? Car stopped running!!
I need some help, while was driving and came to a light the car just died on me. It cranks but doesnt start. While my brother was trying to start i took off one of the spark plug wire and i wasnt geting any spark.
Is the distributor the problem and do i need to buy a new one? Any suggestions how to fix it?
The car (91 HF)has a B16a swap, OBD0 with Zyden ecu
Any help or direction on how to fix it it will be great.
Thanks

Ive got my money on the coil... If you did the swap your self, take the coil out of your old dizzy, and throw it in the b16 dizzy. Also, Im assuming your getting fuel??? (if you try to start the car, and then pull the spark plug out and its covered in fuel, then its probably your ignition system). Its doubtful that your timing belt would go, but it wouldnt hurt to check. but yeah, ive got money on the coil... but check your rotor too... may as well just do a whole tune-up...
My guess would be igniter, then maybe coil.
Could also be something else too.
You could pull off the cap -inspect the rotor button and cap -while off -also bump over engine to make sure you see it spin the rotor button.
If so, try to swap igniter's if you have one around.

Can i use the igniter and the coil from my D16 dizzy?
Also you mention the timing belt, i am not that familiar, why i should have problem with the timing belt?
Thanks again

when you try to crank it does it pop (backfire) (exhaust)
i member when something like this happend, it would pop(backfire) when i tried to turn it on, the car was driving normal than hesiated than bogged down and died, problem was that the lil screw that holds the rotor (in the distributer cap) was loose (off) cause it not to have spark, check that if, u have not so, it might be your problem

The coil and igniter from the D16 can be used, but the igniter for a B16A calls for a different part number. Though the D16 can be used, normally it will blow out again quicker than having the proper on later installed.
THe timing belt -if it where to snap, the cams would not spin -there for nothing in the dizzy would spin -giving you no spark. This is why I said you can remove the cap, and then try to bump it over to see if it spins. If it spins -the belt is not broke (no worries about that part then).

you could put a belt on it and do a compression test or you could pull the head
