Any reason why you want to use that ECU? What mods are on your car? '01 is OBD2B and you have an OBD2A motor. You'll need a conversion harness.

Yea, I am currently running this ecu on a JDM B16 and it is not that great, VTEC doesn't engage till 6k rpm which is really late for the stock motor, and the car falls out of VTEC between shifts since the gears in the tranny are too long.

Now if you switched to a type-r style intake mani, have the 01 ITR or CTR cams, and don't mind droping out of VTEC durring your first two shifts (Unless you have the JDM ITR/CTR tranny) then this may be the ecu for you.

There are two, the first is at 4400 rpm's then the secondary buterflies open at 5500(or something really close) and you can hear it at that point.

stock intake? if thats the case, why upgrade ecu's? Your question is can you use an ITR ecu on a 98 gsr.... the answer is yes, thats if you find the correct version obd2.

96-99 integras are considered obd2 version A
00-01 integras are considered obd2 version B

You cannot run the 00-01 itr (p73) ecu on your 98 gsr unless you get an obd2A-2B conversion harness. Even then, you'll have to get some one to remove the immobilizers that come stock in the version b itr ecu. What exactly are your mods? Are you running agressive cams? single stage manifold??? If your running a stock intake, then I'm assuming your still using the stock gsr intake manifold. IF this is true, save your money and invest in an aftermarket intake rather than an itr ecu that wont do much for you. all in all, your better off to stick with the gsr ecu if your motor is stock, and if your running the stock gsr intake manifold.

If you want to hear your "vtec", try taking off the top lid of the intake air filter box.

i dont think thats correct.

p73 is an itr ecu.

itr's dont have iab's. the crossover is at around 6k rpm.

and yes you can use that in a gsr, but your iab's will be useless.

i have a p73 on my jdm b16 and it runs like a champ.

Read what I was responding to, he was asking about the vtec engagement on a stock GSR ecu.

yeah it works...i have a JDM ITR ecu, i wouldn't recommend it unless your going to use a single stage manifold, i used it with the stock dual stage manifold and it's slower then ballz, vtec crossover is alot more notice able but there is no low end torque what so ever because the seondaries are open at all times. not only that from 4,5000 till vtec motor stresses. when i put back the stock ecu i notice a world of a difference. sure vtec wasn't noticeable but the power band was consistant througout the rpm's.

SO would you consider a B18c5 manifold better than the GSR stock one? Im planning on keeping the GSR computer and run it with that if I do get the type r manifold.

You can't just stick a ITR manifold on your GSR, the studs don't line up on them. Your best bet is a Skunk2 manifold, they are easy to find, and not too hard on the wallet.

hook up a voltmeter (red lead) to the power wire on the VTEC solenoid, you will need a diagram to see what color that wire is. Then take the Negative lead and put it to the negative terminal on your battery. Put the voltmeter somewhere where you can see if from the driver's seat. jack up the front end of the car and make sure its secure. start it and put it in first gear, take it xxx RPM (whatever you think vtec engages at) and read the voltmeter. if it reads 12v, that means you have power to the solenoid and mostlikely vtec is working.
