EK is the general chassis code for '96-00 Civics, while an EM1 is the chassis code specifically for '99-00 Civic Si's.

An EK is the chassis code for cars in Japan. Im pretty sure the US never imported (in mass quantities) the EK chassis. The EM1, EJ8, and EJ6 are the chassis codes for the cars that were imported. They had the EK styling but not the EK chassis code

Exactly. Kind of like how Labatt is good beer, but not all beer is good.

Never said they were imported from Japan. Just said that Honda didnt import EK's into the US. The majority of the coupes were assembled right here in the good old USA (Ohio). Yes some were from Canada. But their parts were still made in Japan.

But like I said before we were never graced with the EK chassis code.

A large majority of the people on here are new age (JDM ******) ricers and like to refer to their 6th gen hatches as EKs rather than their actual chassis codes.

i like my ref. guides here at work, they have the vin breakdowns for all the models honda has made. this is all for USDM 96-00 civics.

EJ6 = sohc non-vtec d16y7 (dx,cx,lx)
EJ7 = sohc vtec-e d16y5 (hx)
EJ8 = sohc vtec d16y8 (ex)
EM1 = dohc vtec b16a2 (si)
EN1 = sohc ???? d16b5 (gx) <-- I had never heard of this engine before i looked it up.

All coupes were made in Ohio
All hatches were made in Canada
Sedans could be from Ohio, Canada, or Japan

of course none of this really matters, 99% of people just call the entire generation EK's since its alot easier.
