Default EK4 vs EK9?

What is the difference? I see the both of them in relation to the EK hatchback, but I have a hard time figuring out which is which. Is the EK4 the 96-98, and the EK9 the 99-00? Or is the EK4 the USDM car, and the EK9 the CTR? I'm so confused.

EK9=CTR

So what is our chassis code then? I know they are EK's, but EK what? I hate to be a ricer and call my car an EK9.

look at your vin, the set of 3 letters, starting with E, is your chassis code
ie- ej8, ej6, eh2, eg2, etc
In actuality, there is no EK in the states and is just a term we use because we're stupid.
You probably have an ej6, if you drive a hatch
