I have a 1997 civic, i know it is a 6th gen, but what does EG and EK mean, i have heard it on other boards and in magazines but i have no clue as to what it means.

they are the names of the model. correct me if im wrong. 92-95 Hatches are EG's i think the coupes and sedans are too.

EK is 96-98 civic.

it's the chassis code.
88-91 EF
92-95 EG
96-00 EK
01-?? ES

if you look at your VIN # the 4th 5th and 6th letters/digits = your car's chassis code. i have a '92 Si so mine's a EG6.

EG and EK chassis codes are the one used in Japan
but as far as what we call them
EG = 92-95 Hatchback
EJ = 92-00 Coupe
EK = 96-00 Hatchback
EM = 99-00 SI Coupe

98ek4 is right there is no ek in the U.S. at least not in the vin#
96-00 3dr, and 4dr = EJ 99-00 Si = EM
93-00 2dr =EJ, no 2dr for 92

but just for simpler reference.. we use the japan chassis code for the hell of it since people are too lazy to look at their vin numbers

Wrong take a better look at your VIN it doesnt say EG6
Mine says EH3 93 SI hatch

EG6 is a japan only code
